STARTING OF MAHIYANGANA CENTRAL COLLEGE

....B / Mahiyangana National College which   has a long history was found in the year 1911.   Then it was named “Aluthnuwara Mixed School”   and the first head master was Mr.Appuhami.     Although it was started in 1911, the present premises of the school has been established in   1932.

PRESENT SITUATION AND   THE DEVELOPMENT

......After 1950’s a rapid development in  the Mahiyangana National College could be seen and in 1960 the Advanced Level classes have  been started. Until 1950 the number of teachers was only two, now the number of teachers has gone up into 104 from the year 1950. Although there were only 100 students in 1950, now the number of students has increased into about 3500. The educational condition now has been developed continually fast than earlier. So that this school has become a major educational institute in the Uva province as a national college.
                        Now Mahiyangana National College is famous not only for development in the education but also in extra curricular activities too, the students have shown off their talents in national and international levels. Day by day, year by year the number of the students is being developed. The reason for this development is the quality of education which is given by the school
                        In 1971, the first student from Mahiyangana National College entered to the university and now there are many numbers of students who were graduated from different national universities and from foreign universities.
                        The G.C.E. Ordinary Level and G.C.E. Advanced Level results are the mirrors which show the quality of the education in this college and there are many students who have shown their colours in the above examinations.
                        All the advanced level students such as science, mathematics, commerce and arts are taught here and music, dancing, agriculture, home science too are included them.
